court

A company has been fined $130,000 for the death of a worker at a Western Australia gold mine in 2013.

Exact Mining Services pleaded guilty in the Perth Magistrates Court to failing to provide a safe working environment, after the death of 38-year-old Stephen Hampton at the Telfer gold mine.

Mr Hampton was crushed while working on a 60m-long polyethylene pipe at a tailings storage facility at the mine. While another section of the pipe was being moved by a forklift, the pipe moved unexpectedly, killing Mr Hampton.
