Explosion at Townsville nickel refinery

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland are investigating an explosion at Clive Palmer’s nickel refinery on Tuesday.

One of the Townsville refinery’s roasters, used to melt nickel, has been isolated after the top exploded, according to a report by the ABC.

No one was injured in the explosion, but the incident has fueled speculation about lagging safety standards in the refinery.

Queensland Nickel is being run by voluntary administrators after the company struggled with low nickel prices and sacked more than 200 workers earlier this year.
