Fatality at Olympic Dam mine

Mine Worker Killed and Another Injured at Mine Near Moura

South Australian media are reporting a mine worker has been killed at the underground mine section of Olympic Dam.

The Adelaide Advertiser reports that police were called to the Roxby Downs site this morning to investigate a rock fall incident.

The deceased worker, believed to be a 47-year-old man from Tumby Bay, died at the scene according to The Advertiser.

Operators of the mine, BHP Billiton, are yet to confirm the fatality.

“At this stage we can provide no more information, except to stress that our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of our people,” a BHP statement said.

“We will provide more details concerning the incident as soon as they become available.”
