SRK Consulting (Australasia) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Ballantine as a principal consultant. Gary has 27 years’ combined industry and consulting experience in coal exploration and mining in Australia and internationally.
‘Gary provides a deep understanding of the local and international coal market – supply, demand, project characteristics and project development pipelines at corporate, technical and consulting levels’, said SRK’s Managing Director, Chris Woodfull. ‘His focus and expertise in understanding, modelling and communicating the geological and coal quality characteristics of projects and how these impact on mining extraction, beneficiation and marketability of final product are highly regarded and will greatly benefit our clients. His wealth of experience and capabilities will allow him to engage on projects from early exploration, through to resource definition, project development and operation, and add further depth to SRK’s capability in these areas. Gary will also be a welcome addition to the project evaluation team, given his extensive experience in the areas of due diligence, independent public reporting and support of M&A and valuation assessments’.
Gary’s most recent role was Executive General Manager Geology and Exploration for Energy Resources LLC between 2010 and 2016, based in Mongolia. Between 2006 and 2008, Gary was the Global Group Leader at BHP Billiton where he was responsible for the global exploration coal team and strategy. After leaving BHP Billiton, Gary formed GeoCheck Pty Ltd, a niche coal software and consulting company, where he worked as an independent coal specialist and advisor.
Gary commenced with SRK on 5 March and is based in Brisbane, Australia.
