Experienced oil and gas industry executive Ken Fitzpatrick has been appointed as the Chair of the Government’s new Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Growth Centre.
Minister for Industry and Science Ian Macfarlane welcomed Mr Fitzpatrick’s appointment to the role.
“Ken Fitzpatrick is one of Australia’s most experienced oil and gas industry executives,” Mr Macfarlane said.
“He has over 30 years’ professional experience in Australia and overseas, held a number of directorships and has been involved in industry-related roles including as the WA state chairman of APPEA, the peak body for Australia’s oil and gas industries.
“Mr Fitzpatrick is ideally skilled to lead the development of the Growth Centre by engaging with key stakeholders to develop a proposal detailing the future work of the centre to boost the oil, gas and energy resources sectors.”
Mr Fitzpatrick replaces Mr Reg Nelson, who is no longer available to take up the role due to work and personal commitments.
Reg Nelson will continue to support the Growth Centre as a strategic adviser, providing targeted advice and insights from his industry experience.
The $188.5 million Industry Growth Centres Initiative is the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s strategy to guide industry into a new era of growth, investment and jobs, by focusing on areas in which Australia has an edge over our competitors.
The five Growth Centres, including the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Growth Centre, will encourage greater collaboration between Australian businesses in the sectors where the nation already has a strong foothold, and where there are the best prospects of future excellence.
The Growth Centres will also tap into the experience and practical know-how of successful Australian businesses and will work to boost Australia’s low rate of collaboration between businesses and research institutions.
