Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition announces 2018 keynote and speaker line up

The Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) 2018 is pleased to announce an impressive line-up of speakers as part of its seminar series, with Austmine, Caterpillar, Queensland Exploration Council and Carpentaria Rail confirmed to be present at the event.

Engineers, mining personnel, production managers, and other people who work in the mining and engineering field will join some of the industry’s largest corporations in Mackay this July for Queensland’s largest mining and engineering exhibition, which will explore the theme, ‘Productivity, Profitability and Protection’.

Featuring more than 15 speakers across three days, the seminar series provides visitors with exclusive access to the latest industry technologies and insights via keynote presentations, panel discussions and case study presentations.

The seminar series will focus on six key areas including maintenance, automation and Internet of Things (IoT), procurement and supply chain, renewable energy, transport, and operational health and safety (OH&S).

Brandon Ward, Director of QME 2018, said this year’s unique seminar series will be complemented with engaging workshops and networking events that provide visitors a unique opportunity to learn and network with their peers.

“QME provides visitors with a truly unique opportunity to hear from some of the biggest names in the industry about their journeys in safety, production improvements, and their future predictions on the global and domestic mining outlook,” said Brandon Ward, Director of QME 2018.

“Attendees are encouraged to arm themselves with this knowledge and be their own thought-leader in the space during our industry networking events.”

Austmine chief executive officer Christine Gibbs-Stewart will officially launch the seminar series with a panel discussion exploring mining’s next horizon. Christine will lead an in-depth discussion on the pathway forward for the Mining and the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector.

The session will explore the importance of leadership, developing mining operations from a small footprint, getting business ready for technological change and disruption as well as what the mine site will look like in the future.

A ‘Transforming Regional Queensland’ panel with Queensland Exploration Council, Queensland Government and Carpentaria Rail representatives will focus on the current projects in the region and how local businesses can capitalise on the $14 billion investment that minerals and energy companies inject into Mackay and Fitzroy each year.[1]

Day three of the exhibition will be dedicated to seminars related to occupational health and safety (OH&S). Presenters will include representatives from leading companies such as Caterpillar and Workplace Health and Safety QLD, who will discuss important topics such as the impact and cost of employee fatigue in the workplace, and how to identify at risk behaviours. A Sleep Health Foundation report[2] found sleep deprivation costs the nation $66 billion yearly in the form of lowered productivity, loss of wellbeing and healthcare bills.

Engineers Australia will host a workshop on Optimising Asset Productivity and Improving Energy Efficiency on Tuesday 24 July. The session will look at extending large scale asset life through best practice asset maintenance while implementing maintenance strategies that reduce costs and increase productivity.

In addition, more than 220 leading mining suppliers will be welcomed to the exhibition area, with industry heavyweights Flexco, Vermeer, Valley Longwall International, SMW Group, Puma Energy and FLSmidth to be in attendance.

QME 2018 will also feature a Business Matching Program which offers visitors a personalised itinerary of products and companies matched to their areas of interest, to maximise their time on-site.

Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition will run from 24 to 26 July 2018 at the Mackay Showground, Mackay, Queensland. To register for QME 2018, visitwww.queenslandminingexpo.com.au.
