Production Stops at Collie Coal Mine Over Unpaid Bills

Griffin Collie coal mineHundreds of workers at Griffin’s Collie Coal Mine, south of Perth, did not show up for work today after Griffin’s parent company failed to make a long overdue multi-million dollar payment to a principal contractor.

According to the ABC, this is the second time in three months that Carna Civil Mining has been forced to pull more than 300 staff from the Collie mine over bills unpaid by parent company Lanco Infratech.

Lanco Resources general manager David Trench admitted to the ABC that there were “outstanding accounts” to be paid but said it was “just accounting issues”.

Production is expected to be halted for at least a week according to CFMEU organiser, Gary Woods.

Mr Woods told the ABC that workers would continue to be paid by Carna Civil Mining during that time.
