1000 workers needed to construct process plant at Roy Hill mine

Roy HillConstruction of a mine process plant at the Roy Hill iron ore mine in WA is expected to generate “1000 jobs for approximately 14 months”, according to contractor, Thiess.

Thiess announced yesterday that they had been awarded the $330 million contract by Samsung C&T to construct the plant. Work is expected to commence onsite in July of this year.

The contract includes construction of the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works (SMPEI) which are being designed and supplied by Samsung.

Thiess Managing Director Bruce Munro said the contract signals a new relationship with Samsung C&T.

“We also have a long association with iron ore projects in the Pilbara and this contract represents a continuation with a new client,” Mr Munro said.

The Roy Hill deposit is located about 280 kilometres south of Port Hedland in Western Australia.
