A resources multinational recently procured a large volume of mining services.

Rio Tinto recently confirmed it had spent over $1 billion on suppliers at its Western Range mine.

Civmec won a $330 million contract to build a new run of mine pad, primary crushing facility, overland conveying circuit plus coarse ore stockpile and downstream conveying system modifications.

CPB Contractors secured the $250M tender for main infrastructure bulk earthworks.

Primero Group received $54M for designing, supplying, constructing and commissioning non-process infrastructure facilities.

MACA won a $60M package to build a camp pad, access road as well as crushing and screening work.

“The spending of A$1 billion with Western Australian businesses at Western Range marks a considerable milestone for both the project and those local businesses we are partnering with,” Rio iron ore chief executive Simon Trott said in a public statement.

Western Range is promised to create about 1600 jobs. Production is expected to start in 2025 with a capacity of 25 Mt per annum.

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA’s latest analysis found the state’s mining, energy and contractor industries directly contributed $98.98B to the national economy during 2021-22. More than 69,000 full-timers were directly employed.
