The Human Element of Mining Innovation Uncovered at Austmine 2019

The embers that light innovation, the human element of mining technology, will be explored in depth at Austmine 2019, the world’s premiere gathering of industry thought leaders.

Scheduled for May 21-23 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Austmine 2019 will see the best and brightest present their insight into the next horizon for the industry, with presentations from miners, METS, academia and government.

A special focus will be applied to the future role of human input into the mining value chain, with an emphasis on understanding how companies are enabling their workforce to create a culture of ideas.

Looking into the topic of augmented reality in the minerals processing plant, changing workforce expectations, and the productive use of new technology, will be Greg Johnson, Senior Manager/Global Solutions Architect, Schneider Electric.

Greg said, “Along with other game-changing technologies like digital cloud, mobility, analytics and cybersecurity, augmented reality will fundamentally alter and improve the way information is consumed and decisions are made.

“Even though we are still at the beginning of the digital transformation and operating models are still in flux, nonetheless, there are compelling use cases for augmented reality today as well as lots of room for new ideas.

“I’m looking forward to sparking some thinking on the future.”

Just one of the international speakers will be Peruvian Rafael Estrada Hora, Manager of Information Technology, Telecommunications and Process Control, Antamina Mining.

Rafael said, “This conference is an excellent opportunity to hear from great speakers, as well as establish contact with the miners and suppliers that make the development of our mining business possible.”

Mark Boon, General Manager Transformation & Effectiveness, Evolution Mining, will discuss creating a pathway for transformation opportunities and improved business effectiveness. Rob Cunningham, Mining Operations Manager at CMOC Northparkes Mines also joins the session, to discuss how they’re driving an improvement innovation culture at their operations which embrace the latest block cave mining technologies.

In addition, Michelle Ash, Chair, Global Mining Guidelines (GMG) Group, will host The Idea Mine: Mining’s Big Idea competition, where some of the industry’s most exciting minds have been able to submit new and unique concepts.

The series of short presentations is set to be an eye-opening experience for all.

Further to the issues surrounding the future role of humans in the mining process, other key conference themes include intelligent equipment, the role of analytics, data and security, sustainability, as well as integration and connectivity.

Austmine 2019 is also the ultimate opportunity to network with industry leaders, with a host of events outside of the full conference program.

A series of workshops will cover subjects such as marketing, machine learning, cyber security, the future workforce, and more.

The social highlight of the event is the Industry Leaders’ Dinner and Awards, which has sold out in 2015 and ’17, with the evening recognising the top innovators and exporters in the field.
