Adani may abandon the proposed $16 billion Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin if the proposed project is faced with any more hurdles.
In his first interview with Australian media, Gautam Adani told The Australian he was disappointed the project hadn’t been given the go-ahead after six years of court battles with environmental activists.
With one case awaiting hearing in the Federal Court and several other potential cases yet to arise, Mr Adani told The Australian he hoped the court challenges would be finalised by next year, but warned he couldn’t wait indefinitely.
“You can’t just continue just holding,” he said.
“I have been really disappointed that things have got too delayed.”
The interview comes at the same time Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced there would be no government funding for the Carmichael coal project.
Mr Malcom reportedly assured a protester in a clown fish costume, who was asking that the government not support the project, that he took climate change “as seriously as you”.
