BHP trail derails in Pilbara

A BHP Billiton iron ore train derailed south of Port Hedland in Western Australia’s Pilbara region yesterday.

The company said a number of ore cars derailed from the Pilbara rail line, about 67km south of Port Hedland, at about 6am.

No one was injured in the incident, and the derailment had not affected loading or shipping at Port Hedland port, with BHP drawing on existing iron ore stockpiles.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was notified and will investigation the incident.
