Miners From Across Country to Challenge BHP Executives at General Meeting

RevolutionBHP’s annual general meeting will be a little more crowded than usual tomorrow with miners from across the country currently on their way to Adelaide to challenge senior executives on their policies around FIFO workforces.

According to CQ News, workers from BHP mines in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia will attend the general meeting and ask why FIFO workers are denied a choice about where they live and also why locals are not being considered for some jobs.

“CFMEU officials are also jetting in with  a petition calling on BHP chief executive officer Andrew Mackenzie to end the corporate policy of 100% compulsory FIFO at the Daunia and Caval Ridge mines,” the CQ News reports.

The growing trend towards employing casual workers, rather than full time employees, will also be part of the union’s agenda

BHP’s annual general meeting is being held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre starting 10am.
