Copper conference for South Australia

Copper Conference in South Australia

A Copper Conference held in Adelaide today will focus on South Australia’s strong global copper reputation. South Australia has a number of long-life deposits, including Olympic Dam, which is the fourth largest copper resource in the world.

The state’s $2.2 billion a year copper industry is set to be bolstered by the commissioning of Oz Minerals’ Carrapateena copper-gold mine later this year.

Today’s 300-strong forum at the Adelaide Convention Centre is the third held by South Australia’s Department for Energy and Mining. It comes at a time when market recognition is turning to copper’s forward upside, particularly under the world’s increasing transition to electric vehicles and alternative energy and storage infrastructures.

The Conference has also attracted the International Copper Association Australia, the Chilean Copper Commission, CSIRO, CRU Consulting, and copper powerhouse corporates in Anglo American, BHP, Newcrest and OZ Minerals – backed by a 25-booth industry exhibition.

Chile produces more than a quarter of the world’s copper with Australia the fifth largest producer. South Australia hosts 68 per cent of Australia’s economic demonstrated resources of copper.

A 20-strong contingent from Chile will attend the copper conference including Minnovex AG and JRI Ingeniería and JRI Research Centre Vice President Juan Rayo Calderon, who will speak about the mining innovation ecosystem in Chile.
