New Mine Approved At Burns Peak Forest Reserve, Tasmania

Zind lead ore mining will take place in the Burns Peak Forest Reserve in WA

A new mine is set to be developed after the Waratah-Wynyard Council approved its application during a meeting this week.

The mine, which will be located near Tullah in Tasmania, will be small open-cut and underground mine for lead zinc ore, operated by Mancala Resources Pty Ltd and expected to last up to three years.

It’s also anticipated that the project, which will mine 60000 tonnes of the zinc lead, will generate jobs in the region.

The decision to allow the mine to be built in the Burns Peak Forest Reserve, nine kilometres northeast of Tullah, was decided unanimously by councillors.

Councillor Ken Hyland said that the only downside to the mine was that its life is restricted to three years, but he said he hoped that as in the case of other west coast mines, its lease would be extended.

During the meeting the Council also agreed to pass the recommendation to extend the Waratah-Wynyard Council Strategic Plan 2009-2014 for an extra 18 months.

The strategic plan will be extended to December 2015.
