Major mineral producers examined whether multiple trucks were used incorrectly.
MaxMine recently investigated different work sites where heavy vehicles were allegedly used for the wrong purpose.
“There is currently waste in mining – there are trucks sitting around idling, trucks being driven around like taxis and we are talking about a 600 tonne truck doing something other than shifting dirt,” cofounding interim CEO Tom Cawley said according to News Limited.
Cawley confirmed BHP, Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals Group are all trying to reduce operational emissions by the year 2030. This is why the mining consultancy has agreed to help them improve monitoring technology.
“We gather about 10,000 times more data than anybody else. We use that data then to measure everything and provide management of fleets, feedback loops to drivers, the maintenance team [and] site management – firstly managing the mining haul fleet and then optimising it,” he said according to the media outlet.
Information collected helps maximise payloads, reduce idling, and improve driving efficiency. This is promised to lower emissions by up to 15 per cent.
