A mining operation could be revived in Queensland’s Atherton Tableland region.
The State Department of Resources recently invited bids to reopen the former Wolfram Camp Mine in Dimbulah, 133km southwest of Cairns.
The site has been abandoned since proponent Tropical Metals appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers partners Martin Ford and Michael Owen as liquidators back in the year 2018.
The State Government believes the 480 sq km tenement is still a viable source of tungsten ore that could be used in solar technology, wind turbine blades, drill bits and lighting filaments.
“After consulting with industry groups, miners, explorers and local representatives last year it was clear there was great interest in restarting resource activities at the abandoned Wolfram Camp mine,” State Resources Minister Scott Stewart said in a public statement.
“Thanks to advancing technology and changing market demands some of these mines have the potential to once again become commercial operations.”
