Mine automation boom creates jobs for inexperienced Queenslanders

A multinational equipment supplier expects a jump in autonomous activity and plans to significantly expand its workforce.

Komatsu Australia recently reported soaring industry demand for autonomous drones, vehicles and electric power plants. Driverless truck, bulldozer, robotics and other machinery sales jumped 60 per cent in Queensland in the past year. More than 700 units were assembled in both Brisbane and Mackay during the 12-month period.

The business responded to this economic boom by hiring more than 80 Queenslanders, and previous experience is not necessary. It has set an ambitious long-term goal of hiring 10,000 technicians and apprentices over the next decade.

The following inexperienced roles have been advertised:

  • customer support representatives (multiple positions)
  • mobile plant mechanics (multiple)
  • automotive electricians (multiple)
  • mechanical fitters (multiple)
  • electrical fitters (multiple)
  • boilermakers (multiple)
  • electricians (multiple).
