Sedgman awarded BHP iron ore contract

Sedgman Limited today announced that the Sedgman Civmec joint venture has been awarded a contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and commissioning works at the Jimblebar iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of the northwest of Western Australia.

The Engineering Procurement Construction and Commissioning contract is valued at approximately $145 million, which comprises the installation of a new primary crusher and additional conveyor capacity.

Sedgman Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Peter Watson said the contract was further demonstration of the success of Sedgman’s focused Global Minerals strategy.

“Sedgman and Civmec have an established track record in Western Australia of delivering metals process and materials handling projects in partnership over the last 3 years and we are excited to be able to broaden this relationship to the iron ore sector.

“The award of this contract followed a competitive tender process and is testament to the design and safe delivery capability that SCJV was able to demonstrate to BHPBIO.

“We look forward to delivering a successful outcome for the project and further strengthening our relationship with BHPBIO.”
