A multinational mineral producer will reward employees with higher remuneration at least three times.

South32 recently approved wages by 7.5 per cent, 6.5 per cent and 5.5 per cent each year until late 2024.

The three-year pay agreement applies to operators, production technicians and artisans hired after 1 January 2020. The deal was brokered through the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and other parties.

“The company will back-pay the first year’s increase, to be effective from September 1, with the October payroll. South32 has also agreed to six months’ maternity leave through use of the sick pay fund,” Creamer Media reported.

“Paternity leave will also be increased from 10 continuous days to 12 continuous days for shift employees only.”

The proponent will discuss changes with affected employees at a two-day workshop.
