A resources worker died after being pinned by machinery.
Authorities recently examined how a heavy vehicle fatally crushed a coal employee at an undisclosed operation on 2 October 2023.
“A miner died after he was pinned between a shuttle car and a coal rib,” the Mine Safety and Health Administration said in a safety alert.
Investigators made the following recommendations:
- communicate your presence and intended movements to equipment operators when working around mobile equipment
- wait for acknowledgement before moving
- avoid ‘red zone’ areas where equipment operators cannot readily see you
- increase visibility with reflective clothing and/or strobe light devices.
